Wrap-up & Evaluation

Bizzari to lead 2017 campaign

JUNE 8, 2017:   The United Way of Cayuga County is pleased to announce that Ray Bizzari, Cayuga County’s Director of Community Services is leading the 2017 fall campaign.  He says, “I’ve been active in many United Way campaigns and I look forward to this one.”

Twenty-five years of his career were spent at Cayuga Counseling Services, including eight years as executive director. In 2012, he was appointed the director of community services overseeing the county’s mental health department.   In fall 2015, the duties of Commissioner of Social Services were added to his role.  Bizzari says, “I have the distinct pleasure to work every day with some of the most dedicated staff who come to work trying to make a difference in the lives of Cayuga County residents.”

“We’re very excited to have Ray to lead this year’s campaign, said Karen Macier, United Way of Cayuga County’s Executive Director.  “He is certainly no stranger to the work of the United Way and the needs of our residents. Ray brings a very high level of commitment to the community and to the success of the campaign. Ray’s already hard at work and will provide great leadership for the campaign team.”

Bizzari is a lifelong Cayuga County resident, living the last 20 years in Ledyard with Liz Burke.  He has raised three children who all live nearby.

Memorial Day Food Truck Rodeo

See the official flyer here!

Memorial Day fun starts at 11AM with the City’s annual parade that begins on East Genesee Street and continues westwards down Genesee Street to its end point, at Veteran’s Memorial Park. After the parade, there is a wreath laying ceremony that will take place at approximately noon, and an Auburn Civic Band performance.  Over 500 marchers participate in the parade annually, as well as floats, classic cars and area fire trucks.

After the parade, head to Market Street Park for the annual Auburn Kiwanis Duck Derby. Line up along the fence line and see thousands of little yellow ducks released on Owasco River, and buy your chance to win the many prizes awarded. After the duck release, enjoy Dixieland music by the Lock 52 Jazz Band. They will be performing under the band shell in Market Street Park, sponsored by the United Way of Cayuga County. UWCC is also offering family fun activities in the park such as the Twin Magicians, who will be creating balloon sculptures, plus craft activities led by the Girl Scouts and the AHS Zonta Zing Club. Children will have the opportunity to create their own American flag to commemorate the holiday, among other things.

From 11AM – 4PM, the Downtown Auburn BID & UWCC have organized a Food Truck Rodeo & Craft Beer Garden to be offered on Loop Road, and in the parking lot behind Good Shepherd’s Brewing Co. Multiple vendors will be on hand offering a wide variety of dishes, sides & desserts. Mobile vendors include Cayuga Lake Creamery, Chicken Bandit, Silo Food Truck and Tonzi’s Catering Co. On the beverage side, Aurora Ale & Lager, the Copper Pig BBQ & Taproom and Good Shepherd’s Brewing Co., will be pouring adult beverages for those 21+. There’s lots of free fun going on in downtown Auburn, so come enjoy!
